Healthy People With the change in our wealth as a nation over the last century, there seems to be a change in our health. In some ways we are healthier because we have access to medical care that we did not have a century ago. Many infectious diseases that were fatal 100 years ago are hardly even seen today. Infections that were very serious threats are now able to be treated with a fairly high rate of success. Today, the deaths that occur are related more to lifestyle than infectious disease. Heart disease, cancer, and strokes are the leading killers in the United States.
